Dear OHS Families,

This week we have two early dismissal days on Wednesday (10/25) and Thursday (10/26) for Teacher-Family Conferences.  Our early-release dismissal begins at 1:35 on each of those days.

Conferences are a great chance to hear about how the year is starting for your child in the classroom and to share anything you are noticing at home that will be helpful for your child’s teacher to know.  Thank you for taking part in the conferences so we can continue to work together in supporting our learners.

CARES Work

Last week, we had our CARES Assemblies for the month.  We read the book, Our School is a Family, and set up the challenge for the month.  For the challenge, teachers will be jotting down kind acts as they see them and each class will be collecting their kind acts on sticky notes of certain colors.  At our November assemblies, we are going to come together and place colorful sticky notes on a big display.  The vibrant color of the kind acts will cover negative words on the display, showing how our kind acts can help counteract negative feelings and acts that may happen at school.

Halloween Parades – Tuesday, Oct 31st
There will be two Halloween parades on Tuesday, October 31st:

  • Our kindergarteners will have a parade around the outside of the school at 9:30 am.  Students in the other grades will stand outside their exterior classroom doors to cheer on our kindergarteners.  Family members of our kindergarteners can stand in front of the school to see the parade.  K students can come to school in costumes, keeping masks and other parts in bags.
  • Our parade for students in grades 1-5 will begin at 2:30 pm. The parade will run the full length of the front of the school.  Students in grades 1-5 will have a little time before the parade to put on costumes.  Please think about costumes that will allow students the ability to manage on their own.

Please keep in mind we cannot have toys shaped as any sort of weapon - e.g. a pretend gun, sword, knife, sickle, pitchfork, etc. Please save those for neighborhood trick-or-treating. Also, please make sure that any masks allow for proper visibility. For anyone who chooses not to wear a costume, which is completely fine, I would encourage the wearing of school colors, spirit wear, or Halloween colors.

Have a great week!

David

Lost & Found

Missing a sweatshirt? We may know where to look...

The Lost & Found table is overflowing with unnamed items.  If you recognize an item, please have your child pick it up.  When you visit school for conferences, please take a look! The table is located in front of the office.

PTA meeting recap

At Thursday's PTA meeting, Board of Education member Jessica Gerber answered questions and filled us in on the redistricting process, which is on hold for the 2024-2025 school year.

Mrs. Gerber discussed that 5 of the 9 Board of Education seats will be on the ballot on Election Day (November 7). If you are planning to vote, please note that your polling place may have changed from last year.  You can find your polling place and RTM district on the town's website here. You can research the candidates running for office on their party websites or at KnowYourReps.org.

Stay in the Know

You can find minutes from the PTA meeting later this week on our website, ohspta.com, along with a list of all of our scheduled meetings for the year. The next PTA meeting will be on November 17 at 9:30am.

Picture Retake Day November 1

Not thrilled with your school photo? Don't worry, you can give it another try next week. Picture Retakes will be on Wednesday, November 1. All you need to do is bring in your undamaged portrait package for the photographer (you can keep the class photo).  Retake photos should be available 3-5 weeks after the pictures are taken.
