Dear OHS Families,

I want to wish all the moms and mom-like figures in our community a very happy Mother’s Day!  I hope you felt appreciated and celebrated over the weekend.

Staff Appreciation Week

This coming week, we celebrate our amazing staff at OHS during Staff Appreciation Week. Our dedicated teachers, support staff, paraeducators, office support, custodians, and everyone behind the scenes play a crucial role in shaping the educational experience of our students. Their unwavering commitment, creativity, and passion create a nurturing environment where our students can thrive and succeed. I am continually inspired by their hard work and devotion to our school community.

Spring Concert this Week

On Thursday our grade 4 and 5 orchestra, grade 5 band, and grade 5 chorus will be performing in the OHS Spring Concert.  The morning concert will take place at OHS with other grade levels of students as the audience.  In the evening, the concert will be for families and will take place at Fairfield Woods Middle School Auditorium.  Our students have been working really hard to prepare for the concert and it will be a treat to see how much they have grown as musicians over the year.  Thanks to Mrs. Trombley, Ms. DiMeglio, and Mrs. Haskitt for their work in preparing our students.

Art Show Thank You

Last Tuesday, we had an amazing art show featuring work from our third, fourth, and fifth grade students.  It was wonderful to see the creative pieces our students have been working on throughout the year.  Thank you to our art teacher of the upper grades, Mrs. Nokta, who organized the show, Mrs. Grabinski for her work in preparing our students in past art years, and the many parent volunteers who prepared everything for the show and cleaned up at the conclusion. It was an amazing show!

Walk-a-thon

This Friday morning is our big Walk-a-thon. Beyond being an important fundraiser for our PTA, it is a wonderful opportunity for all our students to engage in an activity all together at once. Thanks to Courtney Cataldo and Lindsay Gaines for organizing the event. We will end the walk in the back field with some stretching together and celebrating. More details below.

CARES Council Safety Patrol

This coming week, you will see some extra helpers at dismissal time as our Fifth Grade CARES Council members start their Safety Patrol positions.  They will be helping at the lower wing pickup loop and in loading students on busses safely.  The main responsibility is being a positive role model to our younger students and we appreciate their dedication.  Big thanks to Mrs. Day for organizing the Safety Patrol and making this possible.

Have a great week,

David

All Week
We Celebrate our Teachers and Staff this Week

It's OHS Teacher Appreciation Week, and we are so excited to show our staff just how much they mean to us. Each day we will do something special for the people who make OHS the special place it is - but we need your help!

Help us provide staff appreciation Meals & Treats

Each day we intend to do something special for our staff. Below is a schedule of special days we have planned and link to sign up if you would like to contribute. Our OHS staff give so much to our children and it’s our turn to show them gratitude for all that they do! You can purchase food, bake something, or Venmo!

Wednesday
Pedal to school with the Bike Bus on Wednesday!

There's unlimited seats on the Bike Bus, but you still need to Signup!

The OHS Bike Bus makes its inaugural run Wednesday morning! Meet up with the Bike Bus anywhere along the route or at any one of the 4 designated "bus stops." Remember each child must wear a helmet and have an adult guardian, but a guardian can be responsible for more than one child. We will have a police cruiser and a Fairfield bike officer helping guide us on our route. Also, please remember to update School Dismissal Manager now if you plan on having your child ride their bike home alone or with a parent or guardian.

Wednesday
New Principal Search Focus Group Wednesday

A representative from Fairfield Schools will be holding a listening session for OHS parents to provide input on the qualities that the community is looking for in our next principal. The listening session will be held Wednesday, May 15 from 7:00-8:00 pm at OHS in the Library. Though we recognize we have been given extremely short notice, we encourage you to attend as it is the only opportunity they are providing to ensure our collective voice is heard.

The district leadership hopes that this is a productive listening session and that parents come prepared with their thoughts on the desired qualities, experience, and vision you would like to see in the new principal.

If you are able to attend, please click here to RSVP so we get a sense of how many parents will be attending (this is optional- you can still come even if you are not signed up!)

Please note, this is a district-led session and not an OHS PTA event.

Friday
WALK-A-THON is Friday - sign up to cheer on the walkers!

Step to it! On Friday, your child will participate in Osborn Hill’s 2024 WALK-A-THON! With a new start time this year of 10am, all students and faculty will walk together in a mile loop around the neighborhood north of the school as parents and neighbors cheer them along. Every child will receive a free OHS WALK-A-THON t-shirt to wear during the walk!

Volunteer to cheer the kids on by joining the hype squad

Have a free hour in the morning? Join the fun! Sign up here to support the students during the walk at a hype squad location, water station, or by chalking the walk or providing water.

The WALK-A-THON is one of the PTA's biggest fundraisers

The WALK-A-THON funds programs like author visits, field trips, STEM & SEL presentations, field day and so much more! This year, our fundraising goal is only $25 per student.  Donations can be made via check or online. We have created a webpage for every student to send out to friends and family if they wish!

How to support

You should have received a flyer via backpack mail on Friday!  Donations can be made via check or online. Check out your child's fundraising page by following these directions:

  • Go to OHSPTA.com and log in

  • Click on 'My Account' on the top right corner

  • Select 'My Forms/Paperwork'

  • Find the fundraising campaign for your student to edit your page and start promoting!
