Dear OHS Families,

I heard a new term from a family at the concert this week referring to this month as May-hem and it does seem appropriate with the busy, action-packed weeks.

Making this Monday (5/20) a little busier, please remember our upper Car Loop will be closed for drop offs in the morning to allow for the BMX performers to setup their course in that spaceThe loop will be reopened for afternoon pickup.  I would encourage students to ride the bus or walk/bike to school if at all possible.

Appreciation for Staff Appreciation Week

On behalf of the OHS faculty, I want to thank the PTA for their generosity and thoughtfulness this past week with beautiful student-made signs out front, delicious food each day, and even gift cards.  You certainly know how to show appreciation and we are thankful for your kindness.  I know there were many organizers, volunteers, and food providers who made it all happen and it is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

BMX Program

We are excited to welcome the BMX program that will present to students about the importance of making responsible choices during the day on Monday.  I know it will be an exciting presentation and one you will likely hear about after school on Monday. Big thanks to Kate Fierman for organizing this program and to the PTA for funding the event.

Field Day

On Thursday, 5/23, we will have our annual Field Day! The rain date is Friday, 5/24.  K, 1, and 2 students will be outside from 9:15 until 11:45.  Grades 3, 4, and 5 will be outside from 12:15 to 3:00.  Please be sure to apply sunscreen to your child(ren) and be sure they have a water bottle and snack that day.  There will be a snack time during one of the stations while they are outside.

Big thanks to Mr. Marko for organizing the big day and to all our family volunteers for making the day possible!

We will be running lunch times at different times to accommodate Field Day on Thursday.  They will be 30-minute lunches starting at the times below in case you have a student celebrating a birthday that day:

5/23 Lunch Times

  • 11:00: Grade 3
  • 11:30: Grade 4
  • 12:00: Grade 5
  • 12:30: Kindergarten
  • 1:00: Grade 2
  • 1:30: Grade 1

Walkathon Thank You

We had a wonderful Walkathon event on Friday.  It was a successful fundraiser and an enjoyable walk around the block.  Big thanks to Courtney Cataldo and Lindsay Gaines for organizing the event and to Beth Nori for donating her graphic design skills in creating the t-shirts. Thank you to everyone who donated and collected donations as part of this important fundraiser for the PTA.

Concert Thank You

Last Thursday was a beautiful concert performed by our orchestra, band, and chorus in the big auditorium at Fairfield Woods.  It was a special evening showcasing the musical learning of our students this year.  Thank you to Mrs. Trombley, Ms. DiMeglio, and Mrs. Haskitt for making the evening possible. Each group performed exceptionally and many of the pieces were moving.

Have a great week,

David

A huge THANKS to all our helpers!

Last week was a busy and memorable one at OHS, and we are so thankful for our Family of Friends who have stepped up to help along the way!

  • So many of you had a hand in making Teacher Appreciation Week a success. Thank you to all those who dropped off food, donated money, purchased yard signs, decorated doors, treated your teachers, and encouraged your children to make cards. A special shout out to our room parents, and to our Teacher Appreciation Week committee of Kim Dragovic, Dana Zuskin and Tanya Dunne for showing the OHS staff how much they mean to us!

  • Thank you to Rob Marshall for organizing our very first Bike Bus, and to all the parents who joined us - in the rain! - to bike to school.
  • Thank you to all who made signs, wrote in chalk, handed out water and cheered on our otters during Friday's WALK-A-THON. We are grateful to everyone who donated to our fundraiser - we raised over $10,000 for the PTA! Thank you to Courtney Cataldo and Lindsay Gaines for organizing and to Beth Nori for designing the t-shirts.

We still have a few more events ahead, and we know the end of the year is always a busy time.  We are so grateful for your support!
