Dear OHS Families,

I hope you had a wonderful weekend and are looking forward to the holiday this week!

The OHS Turkey Trot Food Drive was a huge success! Thank you to the parents and students for their donations, and thank you to the PTA committee, the parent volunteers, and the 5th grade students for making it all come together. The food drive will help many needy families, and it taught the students some very important lessons. Also, I want to congratulate Ms. Fleming’s class for collecting the most items once again! Some of our classrooms made a valiant effort to beat 4F, but they certainly are tough!

A few important notices for parents and guardians:

  • I am strengthening our procedures to make sure we have safe transitions for our students to ASA’s, and I need your help as part of the process: If you have a student in an ASA, and they are going to miss their session for any reason, please email the leader of that ASA directly to let them know your child will not be present that day. This includes if they are absent for the day, or if they are in school and just not going to ASA. This step will help strengthen the communication to the ASA teacher so they can confidently account for all of their students.

  • We will be having a lockdown drill the first week of December. In this drill, we announce it is a drill as if there were an interior threat, teachers then lock their doors and they get their students safely out of sight. Please reassure your children that all drills are practiced to keep them safe, and they should be silent during drills and listen closely to their teachers' directions.

  • Please keep SDM up-to-date with any dismissal changes.

Thank you for your support, and have a great week! Take care.

Sean F. Smyth, Principal

Watch the Turkey Trot fun run Tuesday

On your marks, get set, the Turkey Trot is on Tuesday! The kids will take part in a fun run around the building during school hours and parents can root the kids on!

We're looking for parent volunteers to cheer on our turkey trotters and provide guidance on the course.

Please reference the course map so you can choose your volunteer locations:

  • Grades K-1 will do a shorter loop starting up by the playground in the back.
  • Grades 2-5 will be traveling around the building (starting in the back parking lot)

The start is staggered by grade and class with K-1 starting at 9:20.  Usually 2nd grade lines up by 9:35 and then 3-5 around 9:50.  Please note these times are not exact as once we get started the goal is to keep the classes rolling through continuously.

Variety Show tickets on sale next week

We are two months away from the 2025 Osborn Hill Variety Show! Tickets are $18 and can be purchased in phases on our website next week.

You do not need to stress about getting tickets this year - we can guarantee every performer's family will be able to buy at least 4 tickets. It is important to please purchase your tickets in the correct phase.

Tickets will go on sale in three rounds:

Round 1: Monday 12/2 -12/3 Families with a performer in the show can buy up to 4 tickets in Round 1. This includes stage crew, narrators and students just in the fifth grade finale. Performers do not need a ticket but all chaperones (even if they are sitting with the groups) need a ticket. There will be no comped tickets this year. If you were hoping for more than 4 tickets, don’t worry! We are hopeful that there will be a round 3. Tickets will be available through a link in the 12/2 Flash.

Round 2: Wednesday 12/4-12/5 - Families without a performer in the show can buy up to 3 tickets. This round is specifically for our OHS students and chaperones who are not in the show but want to go and cheer on their friends. As this is a school-wide event, we want to make sure any otter interested in attending can get a ticket.

Probable Round 3: Monday 12/9 - If there are enough tickets left for a Round 3, it will be open to everyone. Restrictions may apply and will be detailed after Round 2 is over.

If you have a problem purchasing tickets in Round 1 please do not stress, just contact the Variety Show Committee. There is no way we will sell out in Round 1. The main reason we moved to the Klein was to increase our audience capacity. We have plenty of tickets and we are confident that everyone that wants to attend will be able to purchase tickets during Rounds 1 and 2.

Ticket FAQ's:

  • Tickets are non-refundable, but they are transferable. In order to transfer, ticket holders will need to coordinate on their own and give the hard copy tickets that they receive at the dress rehearsal to the recipient.
  • There are only 4 tickets allowed per performer family in the first round. If you attempt to buy more in the first round, or if you attempt to purchase any in round 2, there is a chance you will not be able to use them and we will not be able to reimburse you.
  • If your child is not in the show, please DO NOT purchase tickets in Round 1. We will not be able to reimburse you and your tickets will be invalid. You will need to purchase tickets again in Round 2.
  • Every single person that comes to the show needs a ticket. Due to fire codes there is absolutely no lap sitting.
  • Strollers will need to be left in the lobby.
  • The price of tickets includes credit card processing and transaction fees.
  • Please do not think it will go unnoticed if you buy more than your allottment per family or if you try to purchase during the wrong round. We watch and account for every single ticket and you will be contacted.

Any other questions? Contact the Variety Show Committee.

Add your pumpkins to the OHS compost bin

Don't send your pumpkins to the landfill - join the OHS Green Team and schools across FPS and add them to the compost bin! You can drop your old pumpkins and hay bales in the dumpster by the entrance to the upper loop, in the first spot facing Stillson Road. No painted or decorated pumpkins, please. The bin will be in place until December 6.

Thank you for your donations!

We are thankful to be part of such a generous OHS Family of Friends! We're grateful to all who have donated food, money, and time to our community this month:

  • Our community collected 3,750 items in our Turkey Trot Food Drive for Operation Hope! 4FL contributed 521 items, 5E added 389, and 4P gathered 294. Thank you to all who contributed food, helped bring the goods to Operation Hope, and to Kate Fierman, Courtney Cataldo and Morgan Marcinek for organizing the event.
  • Thanks to your monetary donations, we raised over $800 for a meal at Operation Hope. Your contributions gave 50 people a hot meal, and provided snacks, drinks, dessert and fruit for those in need. Thank you to Kate Kirk and Stacey Cunningham for leading this effort.
  • Thank you to first grade families for supporting our teacher and staff lounge refresh for the month of November. While we will still celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week in May, we have been spreading the cheer throughout the year with each grade taking a month to contribute to the lounge. Special thanks to Kim Dragovic, Dana Zuskin, Tanya Dunne, Maria McKeon, Danielle Brower, Julia Jones and Liz Franco for organizing.
  • A big thank you to Courtney Cataldo, Lindsay Gaines, Morgan Marcinek, Michelle Cavanaugh, Megan Strater and Rob Marshall for wrapping up another successful season of Run Club. Over 100 students participated this fall, and racked up over 465 miles! Run Club will return in the spring, and we'll race one last time at Tuesday's Turkey Trot.
Help decorate our PTA bulletin board

We have a new OHS PTA bulletin board inside OHS, and to kick things off the IDEA committee is going to feature December holidays and traditions.  We need 2-3 volunteers to help decorate the board for December. Bonus if you have any personal stories or traditions to share.  You can create parts at home and send in to be posted, and kids are welcome to help! Please email the IDEA Committee if you are interested in helping with this.

Reflections Art Competition submissions due next week

Calling all artists - submissions for the National PTA's Reflections Art Competition are due next Friday, December 6. Students are invited to create art under the theme "Accepting Imperfection" in the categories of visual arts, photography, music composition, film production, dance choreography, and literature.

OHS winners from grades K-2 and 3-5 will be chosen from EACH of the 6 categories, and move on to the State level. We will have prizes for the first, second and third place winners in each category!

How to enter the competition

Questions? Contact Tanya Dunne

  • Do you have an incoming kindergartener for the 2025-2026 school year? The office is compiling an email list of incoming KDG students for the Fall of 2025.  Please email school secretary Theresa Budlowski with your future KDG student’s first and last name, date of birth and the preschool they attend so they can be added to the list to receive future information about registration, etc.

  • Please remember to put any absences, tardies or holiday traveling dates into School Dismissal Manager.  For any after school activities your child attends during the school year, please remember you need to update their dismissal plans daily too.  This helps the office and teachers with your child’s dismissal and last minute calls home to verify them.
Nurse's office needs new back-up clothes

Nurse Jim is in need of some more back-up clothes items. Click here to see the items requested and please sign up if you can help. Clothes can be sent in to the office with your child, or you can drop off with "Attention Nurse Jim" on the label. Deadline for donations is Monday, December 2.  Thank you!
