| Dear OHS Families,
I hope you were able to enjoy some beautiful early fall weather this weekend!
I want to remind you about a few special events happening at school this week: On Tuesday, the Fairfield Fire Department will bring their Grade 3 Life Safety Trailer Program to Osborn Hill. In this program, small groups of grade 3 students will be guided through the trailer, which is a simulated home environment, and members of the fire department will help them locate fire hazards. When not in the trailer, another fire department instructor will lead a discussion with students on fire and life safety guidelines. Also on Tuesday, 4th and 5th grade students in the Gifted Workshop program will be visiting Yale’s Art Gallery and the Peabody Museum. Students going on the trip need to meet at OHS at 8:15 AM. Thursday will be Pink Pledge Day at OHS in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Students are asked to wear pink for the day and bring in $1, which will be donated to the Norma Pfriem Breast Center. There will also be a visit by the Pink Car to OHS on Thursday. On Friday, Grade 4 students will be going on their erosion study field trip at Perry’s Mill Ponds.
Also, as I detailed in this Parent Square communication on 9/28, Phase 2 of our HVAC work began this past week. As planned, the drop ceilings were removed from the hallways, and classroom ceiling removal will happen during the evenings this week. Classrooms 12, 13, 14, 15, and 16 are scheduled to be done this week.
Finally, our Silver Spoon Program during lunch started this week, and it is going well so far! The children were able to eat in a more pleasant environment, and they earned many silver spoons to work towards getting a special classroom reward.
I hope you all have a wonderful week! Take care. Sean F. Smyth, Principal |

| Join the new OHS IDEA Committee Introducing... the new OHS IDEA Committee!
The IDEA (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Action) committee at Osborn Hill Elementary School embraces diverse backgrounds, values, and points of view to build a strong, inclusive community. The OHS IDEA committee will work with our community, PTA, and fellow IDEA committees across the district to promote the welfare of OHS and further the diversity, equity, and inclusion goals of Fairfield Public Schools.
OHS IDEA would like to honor the following awareness months as per the national PTA 2024/2025 multicultural calendar. We are looking for volunteers to help spearhead a specific diversity or awareness activity or event that might be special to them or their family. The volunteer(s) would explain the significance of the event/holiday by sharing a craft or activity, a story, tips or facts or anything that helps others understand the importance of the awareness month/holiday.
Click here to browse the list of events and sign up! Interested in leading a celebration or project not listed here, or want to learn more about our mission? Contact the IDEA Committee. |

| Wear Pink and donate $1 Thursday for Pink Pledge Day OHS, get ready to think pink! October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This Thursday, October 10th, OHS will celebrate Pink Day to promote awareness and to raise funds for the Norma Pfriem Breast Center. We are asking that each child brings in $1 to donate, and dress in pink. We'll also have a visit from the Pink Car. The "Pinkest" class and the class who collects the most funds on Thursday will have an opportunity to view the Pink Car and take a class photo.
How can I donate? We're asking students to bring in $1 on Pink Day If you'd like to contribute to the Pink Pledge as well, please click below anytime to donate online: https://www.justgiving.com/page/osborn-hill-school-pinkpledge24

| Variety Show: Today is the last day to register; Submit songs next week Last call for acts, narrators and stagehands! Email the Variety Show Committee at ohsvarietyshow2025@gmail.com today to register your act, or if you'd like to be a stagehand or narrator. Please list all the children in your group and include their classrooms. If you have a group name, it would be great to include that too!
Music requests open next week Song submissions can be made by email starting October 14 at 12pm. Song reservations are first come, first serve. Only the song name is needed at this time, the music file is due December 16. - Grades 4-5 as in years past, song length can be up to 2 minutes 30 seconds
- Grades K-3 - song length can be up to 2 minutes (the committee encourages our kindergarten/1st grade participants to keep it closer to even 60-90 seconds. Please note, this time constraint is new. We’ve noticed how hard our younger friends work on their routines and we want to take the pressure off! We want them to have fun at practices, not feel like dance zombies. Let’s put them on stage, keep it short and easy, and then celebrate them). Trimming our allotted times will likewise help reduce overall show time.
