Dear OHS Families,

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!

First, I want to inform you of assessment results you can access on Infinite Campus: Your student’s fall 2024-2025 NWEA scores have been uploaded and can be viewed in your student’s Backpack on Infinite Campus.  If you are using the old version, click on “Backpack” on top of the screen.  If you are using the new version, click on “Student Information,” and then click on “Backpack.” Starting on October 18th, K-3 Acadience scores will also be available in Backpack.  If you have any questions about the assessment results, please reach out to your child’s teacher, or you can discuss the results at Parent/Teacher Conferences.

We had some great days at OHS this past week!  The 3rd graders really enjoyed the Fire Life Safety Trailer and their discussions with the Fairfield Firemen. Pink Day was a hit… the kids and the staff went all out!  KSI and 4H were voted our “Pinkest” classrooms, and 5F and 1O tied in raising the most money to support the Norma Pfriem Breast Center. All 4 classes were able to get their pictures taken with the Fairfield Police Department’s Pink Car. Also, by all accounts, students in the Gifted Workshop really enjoyed their trip to Yale, and our 4th graders had a great day at their Mill River Field Trip!

We have some fun events coming up this week as well: We are all set up for the Book Fair, which starts on Monday! It is a good thing too, because the students have been asking me every day this week when they can buy books…They are very excited! Our first graders are heading to Silverman’s Farm on Wednesday, and we are continuing our terrific after-school activities all week. Please remember to update your School Dismissal Manager if you have any changes in dismissal.

I am also happy to let you know that our Head Secretary, Terry Budlowski, will be returning to work full-time on Wednesday, October 16th!  We are very happy she is feeling better and thrilled to have her back!  I hope to see you at this week’s PTA meeting on Thursday evening at 7:00 pm.  Have a great week!  Take care.

Sean F. Smyth, Principal

It's Book Fair Week!

Get ready, readers! You can shop our Fall Scholastic Book Fair before and after school Monday through Thursday.

Kids can shop independently with eWallet

Can't make the fair? Create an eWallet account so your student can visit the fair during school hours and shop for books. Have an account from last year? Remember to log on and activate the eWallet option for any leftover funds!

Volunteers Needed!

We are still in need of more parent helpers, particularly in the afternoons. Can you help us out? Click here to volunteer!

Variety Show: Song submissions open TODAY at 12pm

Set your alarm! Variety Show song submissions can be made by email starting TODAY, October 14 at 12pm. Email the title and artist of the song(s) you'd like to use in your act to ohsvarietyshow2025@gmail.com. If you're planning a mashup, please list the songs in the order they will play. Song reservations are first come, first serve, so you may want to consider including a backup option.  Only the song name is needed at this time, the music file is due December 16.

  • Grades 4-5 as in years past, song length can be up to 2 minutes 30 seconds
  • Grades K-3 - song length can be up to 2 minutes (the committee encourages our kindergarten/1st grade participants to keep it closer to even 60-90 seconds). Trimming our allotted times will likewise help reduce overall show time.

Want to know more? You can find Variety Show details and a timeline of key dates on our website, ohspta.com.

Donate Halloween costumes this week

The OHS Green Team will be collecting used Halloween costumes for nOURish Bridgeport’s annual Halloween drive. Please bring in your clean and gently used costumes from October 14-18 to the main office.

Pro Tip: Coming to OHS for the Book Fair or PTA meeting? Bring your costume with you! There will be a collection box in the main hallway.

Donate to help OHS provide a meal for Operation Hope

Hello Osborn Families,

The season of giving will soon be upon us and we could use your help.  Our school will be providing a meal for people in need at Operation Hope the week prior to Thanksgiving. In order to make this possible, we are looking for monetary donations from our school community. Any amount you can give will be appreciated and no donation too small!  You can Venmo a donation to @stacey-cunningham-3 (9555) or @Katharine-Kirk-2 (3652).   If you are sending in cash, please send them in an envelope marked, “Operation Hope.” Thank you so much for your support.

Board of Education town hall meeting Tuesday

The Fairfield Board of Education is holding a town hall meeting this Tuesday, October 15 at 8pm. Attendees will have the chance to share questions or concerns with members of the Board about school facilities, finances and programs.  The meeting will be held at the Central Office Board Room at 501 Kings Highway, 2nd floor.

PTA Meeting Thursday night

We hope you can join us for our PTA meeting Thursday evening, October 17 at 7pm in the APR. The PTA is sponsoring many events, charity projects and educational opportunities throughout the fall, and our meetings are a great way to stay informed.  You can find our meeting schedule for the rest of the school year on our website, ohspta.com.

Picture Retake Day October 28

School portraits were sent home with your child last week. Not thrilled with your school photo? Don't worry - Picture Retake Day is on Monday, October 28. All you need to do is bring in your undamaged portrait package for the photographer (you can keep the class photo). If you have any specific instructions for the photographer, write them down so they show through the envelope window. Retake photos should be available 3-5 weeks after they are taken.

Join the new OHS IDEA Committee

The IDEA (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Action) committee at Osborn Hill Elementary School embraces diverse backgrounds, values, and points of view to build a strong, inclusive community. The OHS IDEA committee will work with our community, PTA, and fellow IDEA committees across the district to promote the welfare of OHS and further the diversity, equity, and inclusion goals of Fairfield Public Schools.

OHS IDEA would like to honor the following awareness months as per the national PTA 2024/2025 multicultural calendar. We are looking for volunteers to help spearhead a specific diversity or awareness activity or event that might be special to them or their family. The volunteer(s) would explain the significance of the event/holiday by sharing a craft or activity, a story, tips or facts or anything that helps others understand the importance of the  awareness month/holiday.
